Week 14 in Marksville: THE FREEZE!

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! Well, another week has come and gone down here in Avoyelles Parish. The work was kind of slow, but that was because of THE FREEZE! It sleeted and froze rained (don't quite know the past tense of 'freezing rain') after it snowed, so everything was covered in a layer of ice for the majority of the week. Check the pics attached. But some cool things still happened like they always do! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK The worldwide pandemic and all its accompanying rules and guidelines aside, we weren't able to meet in-person with anyone this week due to the unprecedented weather. So we resorted to calling people and asking them if they were staying warm, and then transitioned into sharing an uplifting scripture. Some people agreed for us to call them again, and that is the definition of a 'new person' to teach! We later did some service as things were melting for people in the branch. Like clearing roads and yards of fallen trees, and fixi...

Week 13 in Marksville: A lot of stuff happened but SNOW

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! Bonjour amis et familles! First off - I don't mean to alarm anyone, but it's currently snowing right now. In Marksville, Louisiana. And it's not one of those can-still-see-the-grass 1/4-inch snows. I'll attach a pic. MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We had a lesson with Carl this week. He is inching closer and closer to deciding to be baptized, I can feel it. He's been opening up to us a lot as of late, and we've been able to see some of his reasons for hesitation, which has really helped him and us. We also asked at the end of the lesson if there was anyone he knew who might like to meet us, and he fully accepted that invitation and said he'd come up with a list of names! So that's cool! A little miracle this week - we finally got back in contact with Monique! She was one of the ladies we put 'on date' to be baptized a while back, and right after we did that, both of them dropped off the face of the earth. Didn't an...

Week 12 in Marksville

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! So I've got a new companion! His name is Elder Taylor and, like Elder Mills was, is also from the Phoenix Valley metropolis. He's been out as long as I have, and we're excited to take the reins in Marksville for the next few weeks! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK One cool thing that happened this week is we were able to drop off a Book of Mormon. We get these notifications sometimes for people that fill out online forms who say they want to meet with us, and this came from one of those notifications. We saw that she lived almost outside the boundaries of our area, but when duty calls, you find a way! The lady that answered the door wasn't even the lady who filled out the form (she said she just went to the store), but we dropped it off anyway. Planting seeds, right? With this last week being transfer week, a lot of time was spent teaching Elder Taylor about the area and the people. We also ended up double-booking ourselves from subpar communicat...

Week 11 in Marskville: The teachers who taught me WERE cool!

Image
Prescript: Anyone who can name the Beatles song I'm riffing on with the subject line gets a free shoutout in next week's email! Bonjour amis et familles! This was the last week of the transfer! Thus the Tuesday email! And that means Elder Mills is out as of tomorrow! And I'm staying here in Marksville! And I'm getting a new companion! Another sentence with an exclamation point! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We had another lesson with Carl this week. He told us that he knows the Book of Mormon is real and true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God! But - he won't do anything about it! It's honestly kind of frustrating that he won't commit to baptism. But we've been sending him a chapter of the Book of Mormon to read - since he has been reading it - every day this past week so we'll see how it goes. We've been doing a lot of fellowshipping with the Methodist church in town since one of the people the other set of Elders were teaching goes th...
