Week 6 in Marksville: Quarantined for Christmas

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! You might be looking at this subject line and feeling bad for me. You might feel inclined to feel pity or other similar feelings for me and my quad. But I implore you not to, because this was actually a really awesome week and I'll tell y'all about it! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK So yes, we're quarantined because Elder Kephart actually has COVID (but everyone else tested *coughs* negative *coughs again*). But there were actually missionary experiences galore! On Tuesday afternoon, we got this urgent knock on our door. It was the First Counselor in the Branch Presidency (assistant to the Branch President), who exclaimed that he needed missionaries NOW! There was a lady who got her VW bug stuck in the mud while trying to turn around right next to our apartment. We all went out and helped her get unstuck. She was very grateful and even offered to pay us for our trouble. We politely declined, but instead asked her if we could "spiritually"...

Week 5 in Marksville

Bonjour amis et familles! This week was a pretty fun week and then it wasn't. And then it was again, and then it wasn't. I will explain. It was transfer week, as I explained last week, and I'm staying here in Marksville with Elder Mills. But our quad did get someone new. Elder Davis actually got to go to Portugal on Thursday, and now Elder Kephart is training someone straight from the MTC. His name is Elder Groom and he's pretty chill. I was sad to see Elder Davis go, he's been a real one, but such is life for a missionary. Even within the mission, it's the Lord that decides where you're going and if you'll be staying. MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We invited Carl to be baptized! And he said he'd think about it! So that's progress! The goal now is to help him make a solid decision so we can get him 'on date' for baptism. We had a very productive session on Friday of calling people that had met with missionaries in the past but became d...

Week 4 in Marksville: I have my first 'pros Monday'

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! You might be thinking - it's Tuesday, innit? Why am I getting an email from Elder May today and not yesterday? Has he forgotten about me? What am I to do? Well, never fear! Yesterday was 'pros Monday' because it's TRANSFER WEEK! (also 'pros' is short for 'proselyting'). Usually one transfer is 6 weeks, but if that was the case this time, transfers would be the week of Christmas, so this transfer was 5 weeks and next transfer will be 7 weeks. It was a slower week this week, and not only because we had an extra day between p-days. Half the branch is quarantining right now because they're all related to each other and one of them got COVID. Also, we're trying to conserve our miles (I touched on this last week) for the rest of the month so we're really not seeing anyone right now. But there were still some Missionary Moments this week! (how could there not be?) MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We had an extra zone confer...

Week 3 in Marksville: We do NOT waste all our miles!

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! The mood is up! The feeling's here! It only comes this time of year! Happiness and cheer! Let every heart prepare Him room! Other quotes from Christmas songs! I'm not going to highlight the rest of the email Christmas colors because it might distract. Or give someone a headache. Or not. Or maybe I don't need a reason, but I digress. This week was so great. I'm having so much fun being a missionary just in general. I don't even care that I'm not in Africa right now. I did enough travel this week anyway, with 2 different 2-hour drives! I'll now tell you about it: MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We had another lesson with Carl on Wednesday. It would've been a perfect lesson if he'd read the Book of Mormon on his own yet, dangit! But it was awesome. There were multiple times where I truly felt the Spirit testify of the truthfulness of what I was teaching. I got a bit teary-eyed at one point. Carl really loves what we're teach...
