Week 2 in Marksville: I wash a gel pen

Image
Bonjour amis et familles! Well, another week is in the books. This was the slowest and fastest week at the same time. Each day went by really slowly, but the whole week went by really fast. If that makes any sense. Also: all of my white clothes are fine, if you were worried by the subject line. It was a real miracle.  MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK We had another lesson with the guy we met at Walmart! I will call him "Carl" in all future correspondence. It went really well! We were able to teach him the entire Restoration of the Gospel, and again, there were so many audible 'wow's. He asked us at the end of the lesson where all this extra knowledge about Christ had been all his life. I love that question. I'll explain further down why. FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK "I hate sin! I hate it so much!" This week's edition comes from Elder Davis, who threw his phone at the ground in anger after exclaiming this. He was apparently discouraged at how his 'Fac...

1st full week in Marksville: I meet a 'certified farmer'

Bonjour amis et familles! Well, I did it! One full week in the field! And boy am I excited for all the weeks to come! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK I had not 1 but 2 lessons with the guy we met at WalMart this week! They were so cool. In the first lesson, we read 3 Nephi 11 with him, where Christ comes and ministers to the people in the Americas, and he let out many audible 'wows'. In the second lesson, we watched the Bible video of Christ's resurrection. I felt the Spirit so strongly while watching it and I know he did too. On Friday, we did some service at a 'certified farmer''s house (his words). This guy in the branch and his family basically own all the minifauna you can think of: pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, geese, goats, and a turkey. I'm not in the suburbs anymore, Toto. FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK "I'm going to destroy my stomach." Elder Kephart is a funny guy. He said this after grabbing the largest bowl in the cupboard and presumably fi...

Week 1 in the LBRM: "We boolin' boys!"

Bonjour amis et familles! What a week! This week was packed with so much new information, so much missionary awesomeness, that it feels like it's been more than a calendar week since my last email. I guess it technically has since my new p-day (preparation day, the day I get to send these out) is Monday. I'm now living in Marksville, Louisiana, population 5,702. It's the smallest town I'll have ever lived for an extended period of time and I'm so ready. My companion is Elder Mills, who's going home in 3 months. Needless to say, we're at very different points in our missionary journeys, but we're ready to get to work! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK So many miracles this week. From the awesome Gospel conversation I had with the guy I sat next to on the plane, to the random Elder I met in the Dallas airport who was going home, to the actual people I started to get to know once I got down here to Marksville, missionary experiences popped up left and right! F...

Final Week of the MTC: The Big Easy's gonna be eeasssyyy!

Disclaimer: It's technically the Baton Rouge mission because that's where the temple is or whatever the reason, but the pun was too good! Bonjour amis et familles! If you didn't pick up on it yet (which is understandable - I can be kinda cryptic sometimes), I've been reassigned to Louisiana Baton Rouge! After weeks of deliberation, it turns out that Cameroon just doesn' t want Americans coming into their country right now (I wonder why... ) I got the news from my Stake President (highest-ranking local church leader) on Monday and I've been waiting a week to put the news in this email! It's a part of the country I've never been to before, which is really all I hoped for in a stateside reassignment.  On with the email! MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK My companion and I saved our best lesson for last this week with our TRC this week. With very minimal notes, and a very bare outline of a lesson plan, we confidently put together 25 minutes of material that was...
