Week 2 in Marksville: I wash a gel pen
Bonjour amis et familles!
Well, another week is in the books. This was the slowest and fastest week at the same time. Each day went by really slowly, but the whole week went by really fast. If that makes any sense.
Also: all of my white clothes are fine, if you were worried by the subject line. It was a real miracle.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
We had another lesson with the guy we met at Walmart! I will call him "Carl" in all future correspondence. It went really well! We were able to teach him the entire Restoration of the Gospel, and again, there were so many audible 'wow's. He asked us at the end of the lesson where all this extra knowledge about Christ had been all his life. I love that question. I'll explain further down why.
FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I hate sin! I hate it so much!"
This week's edition comes from Elder Davis, who threw his phone at the ground in anger after exclaiming this. He was apparently discouraged at how his 'Facebook finding' was going (for all you oldies out there - think of it as 'online tracting'), so he decided to loudly and emphatically condemn the entire concept of sin and wrongdoing!
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
John 9:33:
"If this man were not of God, he could do nothing."
Part of the reason why Carl had never heard of the Book of Mormon is because it's hard for some people to believe that Joseph Smith, through the power of God, accomplished what he did. In this scripture, 'this man' refers to Christ, but for the purposes of this thought, I'd like for it to refer to Joseph Smith, and to each of us. Joseph Smith did translate and bring to pass the Book of Mormon, because he was a man of God. As far as this scripture applying to us, we must always strive to be 'of God', and follow Christ, as that is the only way we can accomplish all that our Heavenly Father wants us to acheive.
If you want any further details about what happened this week, or about what I've been teaching people like Carl, my inbox is always open. At least on Monday, the one day I can answer and respond to emails! So don't delay!
Bonne semaine (have a good week),
Elder May
P.S. Honesty alert: I'm so bad at remembering to take pictures, so none of these have any people in them, but here are the ones I was able to accrue:
1. I've found that the best vessel to drink water through is a beer stein. I also love that there are not 1 but 2 beer steins in this apartment.
2. Here's a view from the road of our apartment building. The door is where the bikes are. Speaking of: if you want to send something tangible to me, send it to this building/address it like so:
Elder Ethan May
6970 Highway 1, Apt. 2
Mansura, LA, 71350
3. Meet Fred! We found him just straight vibin' one morning and it was quite a task to release him, both emotionally and physically speaking.
