Week 39 in Douala*: The Continuing Journeys of Elder Way
Bonjour amis et familles!
This week was quite unorthodox for a missionary. I will explain. First, on Thursday, we moved apartments. We're now a little further into the 'Village' area and farther away from the city. Then, Elder Libero and I had to get up at 4 am on Friday to go to Yaoundé because Elder Libero had a dentist appointment over there. We got back from Yaoundé Saturday evening. The whole ordeal was pretty physically exhausting. And above all, they spelled my name wrong on the bus ticket.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
In the hubbub of the move and everything else, we still found someone new to start teaching this week. So go us. Her name is Brandie and our first contact with her showed a lot of potential. As we were helping her sort her 'okock' leaves she was going to cook up later, she told us she has a hard time believing that God loves her personally. We asked if we could come by the next morning to talk about her concern. She agreed. The next day, we had a really cool, in-depth lesson about prayer and developing a personal relationship with God. The Spirit was there and I hope she recognized it, that it was testifying that God did love her, and wanted to hear from her through prayer. She was even open by the end of the lesson to come see what Church was like!
Also, after not coming to church in forever, and with a potential baptism next Saturday hanging in the balance, Carine came to church! She was welcomed by many members who recognized from when she was coming a few months earlier. That was fun to see. She wanted to get a picture with me after but I couldn't connect with her before she left. But things are still a go on that front. Exciting stuff.
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
D&C 6:22-23:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things.
Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?"
When we pray, when we cry unto God for answers, He will speak peace to our mind. We will be enveloped with His love and feel that He is there. That is how we know that we are heard and answered by God. I personally have felt this feeling of peace come to my mind and felt reassured when I've prayed. Through this peace and reassurance, God has shown me how to recognize His hand in my life, and I know
that He can do the same for you.
Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
