Week 38 in Douala: Pizza fixes Everything

 Bonjour amis et familles!

I had a pretty good week this week. I've been adjusting to my companion, Elder Libero, and there's been some rough patches, but then I made him some pizza and we started having some miracles!

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

First off, the day after the pizza was made (I think - the story is better if that's the case), we had 2 lessons that ended in setting a baptismal date! The first was with Carine, and old friend of the Church that I'd only met twice. She'd been traveling and otherwise AWOL for about 6 weeks. I thought I would give her a call to see how she was doing that morning. She said she was back where she was originally living, and she would love if we came to visit. So we came. After mopping her porch, we had a great discussion with her and she expressed her testimony of the Book of Mormon and her desire to be baptized. She said she wanted to do so by the end of the month. So that's what we're planning for!

The second lesson of that day was with Kelly, the lady that came to church last week. We taught her the plan of Salvation, and while discussing it, we explained that we must be baptized to inherit eternal life. She mentioned she hadn't ever been baptized. So we asked her if she wanted to. She said yes! So we're planning on having her service the same day.

Another awesome experience came on Saturday after my interview with President Miner. A little context: I had baptized a young lady named Naomie in Bonaberi at the end of April just before my departure. I'd been having a dickens of a time contacting her to see how she was doing. I was getting worried because I hadn't been seeing her at any district events like the Conference we had last month. But guess who I saw in the conference room after getting out of my interview? Naomie! It was a blast to catch up with her and to learn that she was active in church, enough that people would think she had 3 years in the church, not 3 months. She was there because there was a missionary prep class. It made me so happy!

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

D&C 123:12:

"For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations...who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it."

This scripture was written by Joseph Smith and it is evidence of his prophetic role, as it is true. These people I've met, especially those like Naomie and Kelly, were searching for someone to show them the truth. They didn't know where to find it, but once they found it, they embraced it! I don't know yet the rest of the story for both of them, especially Kelly, but that doesn't detract from my testimony of this prophetic declaration! The Lord prepares people. It's true.

Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
