Week 36 in Douala: The 2 Old Crows Inbox

Bonjour amis et familles!

Another transfer is in the books. As has become custom for my mission, I did not get transferred. I'm still serving in the Village Branch and I'm now with Elder Libero. Together, we have a combined 42 months on the mission. Hence the subject line: they have put two 'old crows' together.

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

We're in the process of finding an almost entirely new batch of people to teach. So we've been doing a lot of contacting. We've been talking to so many people in the neighborhoods around the branch building, and it's reinforced my testimony that anyone can accept the Gospel. Key word there being 'can.' Out of the 8 lessons we were able to plan from our efforts, 2 of them happened. I'd like to highlight one of them:

So Elder Libero is from CAR, or Central African Republic. There are several refugees from that country who have come to Cameroon. And Elder Libero can often pick out on the street people like this. One night as we were walking back to the apartment, he had one of these moments and started talking in his native language with these two guys, Jordan and Jude. He set up a time on Saturday to meet. And it held. Before actually teaching a lesson, they were so gracious and fed us some decent spaghetti. The lesson went well too, as a third man came and joined in too. Definitely a cool experience.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

D&C 39:13-17*:

"Thou art called to labor in my vineyard, and to build up my church, and to bring forth Zion, that it may rejoice upon the hills and flourish.
Behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, thou art not called to go into the eastern countries, but thou art called to go to the Ohio.
Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that the people in Ohio call upon me in much faith...
Wherefore lay to with your might and call faithful laborers into my vineyard."

If I was in charge of where I served within this mission, part of me would want to get transferred every transfer in order to better explore all 3 cities. But this is my 7th transfer in Douala. The Lord has other plans for me, obviously. I am not called at this time to return to Yaoundé or Libreville; I am called and assigned to labor in Douala, and to do so with all my might. There are faithful laborers that I can find here. That is the Lord's promise to me.

Je vous aime tous,

Elder May

PICS:

The soccer field next to the apartment has turned into a lake with all the rain. Also Christmas Jesus. I had to snap a picture before Elder Libero ripped it down.
