Week 29 in Douala!
Bonjour amis et familles!
Another transfer is in the books. As it'll turn out, my only transfer here in Bonapriso over the New Bell Branch. I'm transferring one area over geographically into the Village Branch. I'll be with my 14th companion of the mission. More on those details next week.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
Elder Moma and I worked with the over-zealous Branch Mission Leader on Friday. He is unafraid to share the Gospel with anyone and everyone! We were able to get quite a few new contacts and new people to teach. We also had some pretty good lessons with him. We got this one lady that Elder Moma and I had found super excited to start reading the Book of Mormon. And we had a cool Plan of Salvation lesson with Casimir. He told us we had explained some things that he'd always had questions about, and never got a good answer from any other church. That's something we hope every friend we teach realizes - the Restored Gospel really has all truth!
We had an awesome lesson with Véronique and her daughter. We taught the lesson on the Gospel of Christ. Once we'd explained the 5 principles, I told the both of them: "Now, we have a few invitations for you." I was going to invite them to grow their faith and repent daily. But I found myself asking them to follow principle number 3 - to be baptized! Neither of them gave a full absolute yes, but that wasn't even directly the goal of that particular visit. It was to help them to start thinking about the importance of our message, and if they've found the truth or not. Wheels are starting to turn for them; I'm excited to see what their future holds.
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
John 8:31-32:
"Then said Jesus to those...which believed on him: If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
A theme has developed for this weekly. That theme is truth. In a world that encourages everyone to "speak their truth," that truth is relative on all accounts, the teachings of Christ and his Restored Gospel show us what truth really is. God exists. That is an eternal truth. Jesus is the Savior of the world. That is an eternal truth. Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet of the Almighty God, and was chosen to translate the Book of Mormon, another testament of those 2 above truths.That is of itself an eternal truth. My commission is to help people embrace these wonderful truths, and to see how being a true disciple of Jesus Christ makes a man free. Free to find joy in any circumstance. Free to forgive and repent quickly. Free to choose liberty and eternal life (see 2 Nephi 2:27).
Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
