Week 23 in Douala: The Fruits of the Labor

Bonjour amis et familles!

This is going to be an email you're not going to want to miss. Listen up:

MISSIONARY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

I'm dedicating this whole email to Naomie and her story. This last week, I had the privilege of baptizing her. She is now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and as of 3 weeks and change ago, I hadn't even met her yet. Her story is a miracle start-to-finish. Everything went almost perfectly this week in preparation for her baptism. We taught her all the rest of our lessons, she had her baptismal interview, and she showed up early to her 11 am baptismal service on Saturday. She was a bit late to sacrament for her confirmation on Sunday, but not too late. She is the epitome of the scripture I will share shortly. She is so happy to have found the Church and she knows that in His love for her, God has shown her the way she should go. I'm beyond excited to see how the Church and the Gospel influences the rest of her life.

FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"You wanted to drown me!" (Tu as voulu me noyer!)
- Naomie

In my defense, she did not keep her feet planted in the font so I had no leverage in bringing her back up out of the water.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

D&C 123:12 (paraphrased):

"For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations...who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it."

Naomie was kept from the truth because she knew not where to find it. Once she found it, she wholeheartedly embraced it. She was prepared to receive the Gospel long before she was given our number. She is the reason I'm here on a mission. I'm so grateful that I was able to show her the truth. I know that it is the truth, that the Church is God's kingdom on the earth, and I'm so glad that Naomie and I are now both members of it in the great last cause of Christ.

Je vous aime tous,

Elder May
