Week 21 in Douala: Bualu Bwadikem
Bonjour amis et familles!
Another week has come and gone. I officially have less than 6 months left on my mission as of yesterday. That feels so weird to type out. What's new this week, you might ask?
Also - the subject line is in Tshiluba (the language the Congolese Elders know) and roughly translates to 'it is what it is/no worries.'
WHEN IN AFRICA
Had a pretty cool one of these this week. There was a YSA activity for the District of Douala at our branch on Friday that we went to. There were many different faith-promoting presentations about staying on the covenant path and marrying in the temple. There was also a cultural presentation where people dressed up in traditional tribal clothing and danced. One lady even had a big shield and her face was painted. I'll see if I can attach a picture.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
So remember Naomie from last week? We had an amazing lesson with her on Friday. She talked a lot about her desire to find and serve God again, and at one point, she even said, "I don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to get rebaptized." We told her that she could totally do that - by someone with the proper authority to do that ordinance. We explained the Restoration of the Gospel and the importance of baptism, and asked her if she wanted to follow her Savior by being baptized by someone having authority. She said yes! We went ahead and scheduled her baptism for the 30th. We had a great follow-up lesson on Saturday, and then she even showed up early to church on Sunday. I repeat: we have found someone truly prepared for the Gospel and it is amazing.
FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I'm going to do no-shave April!"
- Elder Mpoyi said this after we explained to him the concept of no-shave November. Sadly (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), he was not true to his word.
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Matthew 28:5-6
"And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
He is not here: for he is risen"
Happy Easter everyone! I know that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, and that because of Him, we can all live again after this life! Also, we can take comfort in the words of the angel until that day comes, and truly 'fear not!'
Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
