Week 13 in Douala: Stories from the Covenant Path (Feb 20, 2022)

 Bonjour amis et familles!

This was a pretty good week with a couple of cool miracles. Let's get into some details:

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

We were at a point one day this week where we'd struck out with an appointment (the classic 'oh, he's not home' trick) and had a couple hours to kill before our next scheduled appointment. So we decided to go look for someone who said she was interested but didn't indicate where she lived or give a number. So we went to the neighborhood we found her in and started walking by faith. We never found her, but we did find some other people who were also interested. They said they had some time so we sat down and had an introductory lesson/discussion. There was this mom that went in-and-out of cooking and paying attention, and her daughter who started asking us great Gospel questions, such as, "How do I believe in God when my classmates tell me not to?" My companion  and I talked about faith and a couple of other key principles, which helped her a lot. We set up a time to come back next week.

Now, to bury the lead a little bit, we put Boris and Marie on date to be baptized! Both of them have continued to progress since my last update about them, and during our 'Gospel of Christ review lesson we did on Friday, the Spirit was so strong, and we decided to ask them to be baptized. They both said yes! So we set a date for March 12th. They came to church yesterday and liked it very much. Before leaving the church building, they asked when we would come back to keep teaching them. Usually we ask that question. I'm very excited for what the Gospel can bring them.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Alma 6:5:

"Now I would that ye should understand that the word of God was liberal unto all, that none were deprived of the privilege of assembling themselves together to hear the word of God."

I'm reading the Book of Mormon for the 4th time on the mission right now, and this verse hit different this time around. Especially since I read it first in French. The word used for 'liberal' in French is 'accessible,' which I really like. I have gained a strong testimony of that principle throughout my mission, how the Gospel, or the word of God, is in fact available, or accessible, to all. The blessings of the Gospel apply to anyone who puts them into practice. God is no respector of persons; all are alike unto him. I'm blessed with the privilege of helping people here realize that and enjoy in the blessings of the Gospel as they progress along the covenant path. And I love doing it.

Je vous aime tous,

Elder May
