Week 22 in Yaoundé: Halloween. Not celebrated in Cameroon.
Bonjour amis et familles!
Don't have much time this week but let's get into some fun quick stories:
WHEN IN AFRICA
It's back! Everyone's favorite but forgotten segment! Honestly nothing much about living here fazes me anymore; that's why I haven't done one of these in a while, but this story was just so legendary. We were contacting in this really dense neighborhood in these tiny alleys and we get to this house where about a 3-year-old kid was standing on the porch. Without saying anything, and before I could react, this little kid just runs full speed at my leg and gives it a big hug! He was so happy to see white people! It was about the cutest thing I've ever seen if I'm being honest.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
We had a couple great follow-up lessons with people we met last week through contacting (including the lady from the downpour from last week). So that was great. Message or email for more details and I'll get back to you probably next week.
Had some great unplanned member lessons on Wednesday. We went and visited Jean Paul, an older man who is very sweet and has a very strong testimony. He was talking about how he hates showing up to church and not seeing his inactive friends. We asked him, "What can you do to help these people come back to church?" He responded, "I'll think I'll visit my friend later today, even!" And, guess who showed up to church? His friend! Suit and tie and all! I love these great reactivation stories that I've been able to see develop with my own eyes.
FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"So tell what really make you to love my king Jesus Chris like that"
Literal verbatim text we got from someone we gave a brochure to this week.
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
D&C 64:9-10:
"Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men."
I read this verse this week in my continuing reading of D&C. I decided to share it as a spiritual thought with the Branch President's family on Thursday. Then, the 5th Sunday Sunday school lesson was 'The Healing power of Forgiveness.' The Branch President quoted me even in the lesson. What he quoted was this: when we refuse to forgive someone, we deny the power of the Savior's Atonement to work in the life of that person. That person cannot fully repent if we do not forgive. We must forgive in order for the Atonement to be brought to pass in the life of those who offend us (see Alma 34:31). So let's forgive others!
Je vous aime tous! Passez une bonne semaine!
