Week 14 in Yaoundé: "Il s'est fait claquer la main"

Bonjour amis et familles!

Had a pretty good first week of this probably-short transfer. We did a good job at filling our days with activities and things to do, something I was worried about, as we couldn't schedule in 4 hours of office time every weekday. These activities that  we did end up doing were also pretty cool, and I will love to talk about them!

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

There was a cool branch youth activity on Friday, that was wholly unorganized, but what ended up happening was fun and strengthened my relationship with certain  branch members a lot. It was supposed to be an opportunity for the youth to practice being missionaries, as we were asked to invite friends we were teaching. For the first hour, none of our friends showed up. So it turned into a question-and-answer session about the mission experience. It was fun. We had a friend, Zazie actually, show up after that hour, and we transitioned to what was previously scheduled. Zazie very much enjoyed it.

There's a member of the branch who just put his own mission papers in who has said he wants to work with us. Fabulous idea. So we had a visit with him and talked about what inspired him to serve a mission. We went out and contacted with him afterwards. It was a cool experience, and again, it strengthened my relationship with this brother a lot.

FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"You can take this peanut butter from my cold dead body!"

This is a really funny lost-in-translation moment. If you say in French, "Je suis fini," it doesn't mean that you are 'finished' with something. It's a 'nicer' way to say that you're dead. So when Elder Kearley asked me for the peanut butter,  (yes, I found peanut butter in Africa!) "quand tu es fini," (when you're finished), I reminded him of this important grammar principle.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Jeremiah 42:6:

"Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the Lord our God."

I was doing my OT reading this week (83% completed!), happened upon this verse, and immediately highlighted it. This is after the conquering of Jerusalem by Babylon, and it this the people that were left in Jerusalem that are speaking. They are saying that whatever happens next, whatever the prophet Jeremiah prophesies for them, they will obey God's commandments and do what He tells them to do. They will do this "that it may be well with [them]". I know that if we do what God tells us to do through his ordained Prophets, it will be well with us, whatever our current situation.

Je vous aime tous! Désolé que j'étais en retard cette semaine à envoyer ceci!
