Week 7 in Yaoundé: The one with the birthday party

 Bonjour amis et familles!

This week went by super quick with the benefit of hindsight, which I find is actually quite often the case. We moved apartments, had a lesson, went to a fellow Elders' 'birthday party,' and still had time to make some super legitimate homemade fried chicken. Let's get to the details:

WHEN IN AFRICA

Something linguistically and culturally cool is this: when there is food served, a 'rendezvous' becomes a 'mangez-vous' (mangez and rendez rhyme in French, and 'manger' means to eat). We went to a family in the branch's FHE and it turned into a 'mangez-vous,' which was greatly appreciated. Directly translated, 'mangez-vous' means 'eat yourselves,' but I don't think they care.

Also - I saw a goat riding a motorcycle.

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

We had another awesome lesson with Huguette. At the end of our lesson this week, she told us that often, we answer her questions before she even asks them. Sadly, we haven't met either her again since Tuesday, but I hope we can continue meeting with her. She's got all the signs of someone who is happy to have found the truth and will continue to progress.

FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"You wasted the chicken!" (Tu as gâté le poulet!)

So, naturally, Elder Dion has never seen someone make fried chicken before. So when he saw the finished product, he yelled this at me. But, he tried it, and liked it. So this story has a happy ending.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

D&C 80:3:
"Wherefore, go ye and preach my gospel, whether to the north or to the south, to the east or to the west, it mattereth not, for ye cannot go amiss."

I'm stealing this from an email my mom sent me. I really love it. The Restored Gospel is for everyone. Literally everyone. So we really can't 'go amiss' in our efforts to share it. There are people out there searching for truth everywhere. This applies very well to me as a full-time missionary, but also to any member who struggles with ideas on how to share the Gospel. You cannot go amiss in your efforts, so any idea you have is a good one.

Portez-vous tous bien, (literally translated: 'Wear yourselves well,' a way to say 'have a good one' or something)

Elder May

P.S: 'Bitter Lemon' tastes more like Sprite than the Sprite here tastes like Sprite. It's good. Also Bob the Sponge and some cool vistas. And my fried chicken.
