Week 11 in Yaoundé: The Continuing Story of Kacou Phillippe

Bonjour amis et familles!

A lot of great stuff happened this week. Taught some good lessons, found some new people, and, as an added bonus, I got my COVID vaccine!

MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK

Subject line time: So last week, we had a taxi driver introduce himself as a disciple of 'Kacou Phillippe,' the one true living prophet (this doubles as a 'When in Africa' story as well). He expressed interest in meeting with us, so we said, "Why not?" What followed was the most hilarious lesson I've ever participated in.  This guy invited 3 of his fellow 'disciples', we invited Fr. Samuel, and we had a 'debate,' where they kind of just told us we were damned if we didn't believe in Kacou Phillippe. Not sure what they actually believe. We're trying to set up another appointment but I think, as I've said in the past, we'll let them do their thing.

The Assistants in Gabon all week for Zone Conference down there, we took it upon ourselves to find a couple new people for them! This guy who had talked with missionaries way before COVID reached out to us over WhatsApp randomly and wanted to meet again. So we set up a lesson. As it so happened, this guy speaks English, and his Anglophone friend joined in on the lesson as well! They live in the Assistants' area, and the Assistants are over the English branch, so it worked out well.

Lastly, we've been talking with Zazie, who works at the supermarket, and she wanted to learn more about us. We had a lesson on Saturday, and it went well. She accepted the Book of Mormon (can't say the same thing about the 'disciples'), but she's hung up on the Sabbath being on Sunday. We'll work through it.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

"Ours is not a feeble message. It is not a fleeting task...it is not to be consigned to the ash heap of history. It is the work of Almighty God, and it is to change the world."
 - Jeffrey R. Holland, The First Great Commandment

I love this so much. As I've been teaching this week, this quote has crossed my mind a few times. This work I am doing isn't just another job, it is the work of God. This church isn't just another church, it is the Kingdom of God on Earth. That is the message I bring to people, and I invite them to become a part of it and enjoy all it's many blessings.  And I truly believe it.

Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
