EMERGENCY TRANSFER ALERT

Bonjour amis et familles!

I've been transferred. I'm not in Louisiana anymore. I'm not in Mississippi either. Not even Southeastern Arkansas.

My new area is Libreville 1A. I'm in Gabon, y'all.

This week was so different than any of the other weeks. So I'm not going to do a traditional 'Missionary Moments', because I'm sure you all have so many questions! So right off the bat:

1. My companion's name is Elder Meyer, and I'm in a quad that's over the Libreville 1st branch.
2. The main roads here are paved.
3. Our apartment has running water (with a filter), and working toilets and showers.
4. There are AC units in both bedrooms, but it's a sauna once you leave them.
5. I haven't stopped sweating and I don't think I will.
 6. Hardly anyone speaks any English here. So many people just come up to us and start speaking French. Then they walk away with a smile because we don't understand them...yet.
7. The mission president and his wife have been with us from leaving the airport until yesterday afternoon and they've given us a lot of good info on health and money and the language. I think I'll survive here.

FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I think you just happened upon the past-perfect tense."

Elder Merrill (who's only been out in the field 3 weeks) was trying his best to talk to what we think was our 'guardian' (the guy in charge of the apartment block), and I think he said "J'ai été étudié le français", or "I have been studying french", which is grammatically correct, but not what he was trying to say at all. The conversation ended with a laugh, and I told Elder Merrill this afterward.

SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

1 Nephi 22:11

"Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to make bare his arm in the eyes of all the nations, in bringing about his covenants and his gospel unto those who are of the house of Israel."

One thing I've really come to know, and know now more than ever, is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, is for everybody. There are no exceptions to this eternal rule. God loves everyone personally and completely. The covenants and promises of the Gospel are available to all. I'm beyond ecstatic to go out and spread this message to the people of Gabon (and eventually Cameroon). I can't believe I'm really here.
En avant!

Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
