Week 9 in Marksville: "What's the point of owning a crate if it's not half-melted?"
Bonjour amis et familles!
Shoutout to Elder Groom for providing this week's subject line.
Alright here goes:
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
No lessons this week. We planned 3 lessons and none of them happened. But, as the hymn says, we "press on in the work of the Lord!"
This older gentleman came up to us at Walmart (where else) and complimented Elder Mills's boots. Or at least tried to. He couldn't talk real well because he was having some mouth pain (which was the reason he was at Walmart). So, Elder Mills jumped at the chance and asked for his number so we could talk about shoes (and hopefully the restored Gospel) later! Quick thinking by my companion for sure. Nothing has come from that interaction yet, but it falls under that 'missionary moment' umbrella.
FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Have you ever had the uncontrollable urge to consume rice?"
No, Elder Groom. I have never had that urge before. I ask you, how many times has that unquenchable desire plagued you?
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Mosiah 4:19:
"For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?"
I love this scripture so much. I came across it in my cover-to-cover reading of the Book of Mormon (for the second time), and it's an awesome message, especially since it was delivered by a king. King Benjamin, the most esteemed man in the land, indirectly calls himself a 'beggar.' I strive to have that sense of humility. When we realize that we are in fact 'all beggars,' we can more easily love those whom we might have been quick to judge. We can be more inclined to help both the temporally and spiritually needy. All in all, we can be more Christlike.
Today is my 111th day as a missionary. Can't believe I've hit this momentous milestone. I'll always remember when I hit my 111-day mark.
Je vous aime tous,
Elder May
PICTURES
1. There are 4 Elders in this picture. Can you find them all?
2, 3. I lost Chinese checkers by a single move not once but twice. Big oof.
4. Also, puzzle. I like puzzles.
5. Action shot of 'Roscoe,' a stray dog who hangs out by the church building. Pretty sure we're his estranged owners now.
