Week 5 in Marksville
Bonjour amis et familles!
This week was a pretty fun week and then it wasn't. And then it was again, and then it wasn't. I will explain.
It was transfer week, as I explained last week, and I'm staying here in Marksville with Elder Mills. But our quad did get someone new. Elder Davis actually got to go to Portugal on Thursday, and now Elder Kephart is training someone straight from the MTC. His name is Elder Groom and he's pretty chill. I was sad to see Elder Davis go, he's been a real one, but such is life for a missionary. Even within the mission, it's the Lord that decides where you're going and if you'll be staying.
MISSIONARY MOMENTS OF THE WEEK
We invited Carl to be baptized! And he said he'd think about it! So that's progress! The goal now is to help him make a solid decision so we can get him 'on date' for baptism.
We had a very productive session on Friday of calling people that had met with missionaries in the past but became disinterested. We store all those numbers in our 'area book' app (it used to be a physical book). We were able to schedule 2 lessons for this upcoming week. So that made the week good and fun again.
FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Those are my homeboys! All we do is win, win, win!"
This one's actually all the way from the top. President Amos said this after the Elders in Opelousas (his hometown) won the game of Kahoot that we played as part of our monthly missionary vehicle zoom training. Gives you a sense of how cool my mission president is.
SCRIPTURE/SPIRITUAL THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Acts 11:26:
"And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."
I came across this verse in my personal study this week (I'm reading the entire New Testament in order) and I was like, 'there you have it.' It hadn't occured to me that right here in the Bible it calls the people who accepted the teachings of Christ and who he was 'Christians.' It's right there in the scriptures. How glad I am to be a Christian and to know that Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world.
Now for the moment that made the week not fun again: We don't think it's COVID, but Elder Kephart got sick on Saturday and we were advised to go into quarantine. So we probably won't have those lessons we set up on Friday. But we're gonna stay focused and diligent on this great work over the next 2 weeks regardless!
Please feel free to ask me questions or just generally give me an update! I'm going to have a lot more time to read them!
À la prochaine,
Elder May
